What is silicol®gel?
silicol®gel is an oral gel containing colloidal silicic acid for the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders and IBS symptoms. Taken 3 times a day, it helps to control symptoms such as stomach discomfort, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, flatulence, nausea, heartburn, reflux and vomiting. Its therapeutic effect is due to the large and reactive surface of colloidal silicic acid and its ability to act as an adsorbent.
After silicol®gel is swallowed, it forms a protective and soothing coating over the lining of the stomach and intestines. Due to the adsorptive and binding properties of colloidal silicic acid, it physically adsorbs and binds most irritants, toxins and pathogens. This action makes them harmless, allowing them to be naturally removed from the body. Silicic acid can also reduce excess acidity and bind gases. This can also reduce flatulence.
Who can use silicol®gel?
silicol®gel can be used by both adults and children over 12 years of age suffering from IBS and gastrointestinal disorders. silicol®gel is a certified medical device, has no known side effects and can be safely used with other medications. For the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders, one tablespoon (15 ml) of silicol®gel should be taken three times a day, one hour before meals. After acute symptoms have subsided, treatment is recommended for another few days. In the case of chronic diseases, treatment should be continued for up to 4 weeks, and then a break to re-assess symptoms before treatment can start again.
How does silicol®gel work?
silicol®gel covers the stomach and gastrointestinal tract with a protective lining. silicol®gel particles act “like a magnet”, attracting irritants, toxins and pathogens. During this process, colloidal silicic acid particles also bind excess acid in the stomach, reducing acid reflux and heartburn. They also have gas binding properties, thereby reducing flatulence.
